Senior Project Engineer – Water / Wastewater Construction
Location: Bay Area, California
Overview
We are partnering with a well-established water and wastewater general contractor with a strong presence across the Bay Area to recruit a Senior Project Engineer to support and help lead the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects .
This role is ideal for an experienced Project Engineer ready to take on increased responsibility, mentor junior engineers, and position themselves for progression into a Project Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the execution of water and wastewater treatment plant and pipeline projects
- Manage and oversee RFIs, submittals, change orders, and document control
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, and forecasting
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, inspectors, and subcontractors
- Review plans and specifications and support constructability reviews
- Track material procurement and subcontractor performance
- Assist with QA/QC documentation, safety compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Mentor and support Project Engineers and field staff
- Participate in preconstruction planning and project start-up activities
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of heavy civil construction experience , with a focus on water and/or wastewater projects
- Experience on treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, or related utility infrastructure
- Strong familiarity with public works and municipal projects (e.g., SFPUC, EBMUD, local water districts)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management , or related field
- Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced project environment
- Experience with Procore, Primavera, or similar construction management software preferred
